This article walks through the calendar from your colleagues' side: how they get in, what they see before, during and after December, and what happens when they open a door. It helps you write your announcement and answer questions.
Getting in
Your colleagues open the calendar from its tile in the Flip App, in the app or on the web. Each calendar has its own link; a Flip admin in your organisation sets it as the tile's URL. Copy it with Copy link on the calendar's Overview tab. They're signed in with their Flip account automatically: no login screen, no password, no registration. The calendar works on phones, tablets and computers.
If the calendar is embedded in a page and can't sign someone in silently, it shows Sign in to the calendar with a button that opens a small Flip sign-in window.
Before the first door
Before the day you set in Shown in the app from, there's no calendar yet: people see a short message that it's on its way.
From that day until the first door, they see the full calendar with every door locked and a countdown: The first door opens in 5 days, on December 1.
The calendar
From top to bottom:
- Your cover image (or logo) and welcome texts.
- Their points and streak ("Streak: 14 days") and a Leaderboard button, if points are on. Tapping the points opens Your points.
- The doors, in a shuffled order that's the same for everybody. Doors that are opened show their title in the "opened door" colour. Locked doors show their number and a small lock, unless you turned locks off under Appearance.
- At the bottom: a refresh button and, if both modes are on, a light/dark switch.
Today's door is highlighted until it's opened. Tapping a locked door says when it opens: Door 18 opens on December 18.
Every door opens at midnight in the calendar's time zone, for everybody at the same moment. The time on someone's phone doesn't matter.
Opening a door
Tapping today's door opens it: its title, image or video, text, and whatever the door type adds, such as a quiz, a poll or a raffle. See Door types for each.
At the bottom of the door, a small badge shows the points earned in it, for example "10 of 10 points", and a streak bonus if one was reached. Tapping it lists what the door paid and what's still open in it, such as an unanswered quiz. Closing the door turns it into an opened tile with its title, so people can read it again any time.
Missed doors
If Open doors after their day is on (the default), people can open any earlier door until two days after the last door. A door opened later earns the points you set for that (none by default) and doesn't count towards a streak. Quizzes, polls and raffles still work, until their own deadlines.
If it's off, a door not opened on its day is missed: Door 3 could only be opened on December 3.
Points and the leaderboard
- If people can decline points, they're asked once, on their first visit after the first door opened. Their choice is final.
- The Leaderboard button shows the ten people with the most points and their own rank.
- Tapping their points opens Your points: their next streak bonus, where their points came from, their rank and how to earn more. Only they see it.
See Points, streaks and the leaderboard for the rules.
Language, light and dark mode
- Language: the calendar follows the person's Flip language. Your content shows in that language if you've written it, otherwise in the calendar's default language. Buttons and messages are always in their language. See Languages.
- Light and dark mode: the calendar follows the Flip App or the device, and people can switch it in the calendar, as long as you've kept both modes on.
- Reduced motion: for people who turned it on, falling snow and the highlight animation are off.
Offline
On a train or in a basement, the calendar keeps working with what it already loaded. Opening a door, answering a quiz, voting or entering a raffle while offline is saved on the device and sent when the connection is back. The calendar shows You're offline. while that's the case.
The server decides whether a door was opened on its day when the action arrives, so a door opened offline before midnight but sent after midnight counts as opened later.
After the season
- Ended (from three days after the last door): This calendar has ended. You can still view the doors you opened. Unopened doors stay shut, and nothing earns points any more.
- Archived (after the last day it's shown): the calendar disappears, with a thank-you message.
Seeing it yourself
- Back to Flip in the admin menu takes you back to the Flip app. Open the calendar from its tile there, as your colleagues do. As an admin, you take part like everyone else: your opens and points count, and you appear on the leaderboard.
- The preview shows any day without counting anything.
