How can I duplicate a post?

💡 This feature is available on Flip Web and in the mobile app.

How does the feature work?

You can create a copy of an existing post in one or more channels. The editor opens with the content of the original post. You can adjust the copy before you publish it.

The original post stays unchanged, with all its comments, reactions and views.

Every user can duplicate posts. You can publish the copy in all channels in which you are authorised to post.

💡 Do you want to move a post to another channel instead of copying it? Read more here: How do I move a post to another channel?

Duplicate a post

  1. Click on the three dots at the top right of the specific post. You can also do this in the content planner.
  2. Select "Duplicate".
  3. Select one or more channels. You will only be shown channels in which you are authorised to post. Find out how selecting several channels works here: How do I create a post in multiple channels?
  4. The editor opens with the content of the original post. Check and adjust the copy. Check the schedule and the author in particular, because they are not always copied (see below).
  5. Click on "Create".

A confirmation window shows the channels the copy was published in and how many people it can reach.

What is copied?

Copied

  • Title and content, including all translations
  • Header image, images, videos and files
  • Surveys. The copy gets a new survey without votes.
  • The author, if they can be selected as author in all selected channels. Otherwise, you become the author. Find out more: How do I create a post on behalf of someone else?
  • The scheduled time, if the original post is scheduled and you can schedule posts in all selected channels. A post that is already published is copied without a time.
  • The settings for comments and reactions, as far as the selected channels allow them.

Not copied

  • Comments and reactions
  • Views
  • Livestreams
  • Mentions. Mentioned people are shown as their name in bold and are not notified.
  • The highlight. You can add it again to the copy.
  • The end date of a survey, if it is already in the past.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between duplicating and moving?

When you duplicate a post, the original post stays and you create a copy in one or more channels. When you move a post, it is removed from the original channel and transferred to exactly one other channel.

Are members notified about the copy?

Yes, as for every new post.

Does the copy change if I edit the original post?

No. The copy is a separate post.

Why was the schedule not copied?

You cannot schedule posts in at least one of the selected channels. Remove this channel from your selection or publish the copy without a schedule.
