How do I move a post to another channel?

💡 This feature is available on Flip Web and in the mobile app.

How does the feature work?

You can move a post to another channel, for example if it was published in the wrong channel. The post is created again in the target channel and removed from the original channel.

Important: You cannot undo a move. Comments, reactions and survey votes are lost.

Who can move a post?

  • Channel admins of the channel in which the post is published
  • The person who created the post

Which posts can you move?

  • Published posts
  • Scheduled posts
  • Posts waiting for approval

You cannot move posts with a livestream. If you are not allowed to move a post, the option is greyed out. A tooltip shows you the reason.

Move a post

  1. Click on the three dots at the top right of the specific post. You can do this in the newsfeed, in the channel, in the post view, in approvals and in the content planner.
  2. Select "Move post…".
  3. Select the target channel. You will only be shown channels in which you are authorised to post. The labels "Admin" and "Approval" show in which channels you are an admin and where posts need approval.
  4. Read the notice in the confirmation window. It shows what changes for the post (see below).
  5. Click on "Move post".

A confirmation window shows the channel your post was moved to and whether it is published, scheduled or waiting for approval. If you moved the post from the post view, the post then opens in the target channel.

Click on "Cancel" to stop the move. The post stays unchanged.

What happens when you move a post?

What is lost

  • Comments and reactions
  • Views ("Post-seen" function)
  • Survey votes. The survey itself is kept and starts again.
  • The highlight. Find out more: How do I create a post as a highlight?
  • The previous link to the post. The post gets a new link in the target channel. Share the new link if you linked the post, for example in a menu item or an email.

What can change

  • Mentions: Mentioned people who are not members of the target channel are only shown with their name.
  • Author: The original author only stays if they are a member of the target channel and you may post on their behalf there. Otherwise, you become the author. Find out more: How do I create a post on behalf of someone else?
  • Approval: If the target channel needs approval and you cannot approve posts there, the post waits for approval. A post that is waiting for approval is published directly if you can publish in the target channel. Find out more: Approval of posts
  • Schedule: If you cannot schedule posts in the target channel, the schedule is removed. The post is then published immediately, or it waits for approval. Find out more: How can I schedule posts in advance?
  • Comments and reactions: If you cannot turn them on in the target channel, the default settings of the target channel apply.

Before you confirm the move, the confirmation window shows a notice for each change that affects your post.

What members see

Members of the target channel are notified as for a new post. The post is no longer visible in the original channel.

Frequently asked questions

Can I undo a move?

No. You can move the post back, but comments, reactions and survey votes do not come back.

Why is "Move post…" greyed out?

You are neither a channel admin of the channel nor the author of the post, the post has a livestream, or its status does not allow a move, for example a draft. A tooltip on the option shows you the reason.

Can I move a post to several channels?

No, you can only move a post to one channel. If you want to publish a new post in several channels, read more here: How do I create a post in multiple channels?

Why does the old link to the post no longer work?

When you move a post, it gets a new link. Open the post in the target channel and copy the new link.
