Create menu item based on user groups

Create menu tile normally

In the "Settings" area under the "Navigation" item of the Admin Console, menu items can be created independently. Those items are visible to users in the main menu.

  1. you can add a new menu item using the "+ Add menu item" button in the top right-hand corner.

  2. a new window opens.

  3. assign a name for the menu item

    • note: The limit for the name of the menu item is 30 characters.
  4. select an icon or image for the menu item

    • menu items can be highlighted with a background image so that they can be found at a glance. To achieve an optimal result, the image should be square (at least 300 x 300 pixels).
  5. enter the link for the menu item

    • in addition to links and intranet links, emails ( or deep links to an app (notion:// can also be used.
    • Mail: The shortcut "mailto:" can be used to link emails behind a menu item. But be careful! If the user does not have a mail programme installed on their device, the link will not work.
    • Deeplink**: Some programmes support the function of opening an app directly via a link if it is installed. Which tools support this function and how this deeplink is structured for the desired app must be researched in advance with the desired application and checked individually.
  6. define the display option

Further properties can be customised in the "Display option" tab.

Here you can customise whether the link behind the menu item should be opened as an iframe or in the browser.

    • "Display as iframe" means that the website is displayed within the app. This function can be tested in advance under "here". The corresponding website link can be inserted in the iframe tester and checked with the "Render iframe " button; the page is only iframe-capable if it has been fully loaded.
    • If the iframe tester displays an error message, select the option "Display in standard browser".
    • The option "Display in the app (flip browser)" is not recommended for most links, as it does not support every URL and display errors may occur on Android devices.
  7. select the user group for which you want to make the menu item visible. If you want the menu item to be visible to everyone, select the user group root.

  8. define whether the menu item should be directly activated or deactivated. Activated means that the menu item is displayed to users. Deactivated means that no user will see the menu item.

  9. click on "Create menu item" to open the further settings for the menu item.

  10. after you have created and activated the menu item, the new menu item appears in the menu of the employee app for all employees of the stored user group.

The order of the menu items can also be subsequently adjusted. To do this, select a user group in the top tab, which changes the view. You can now use the slider to adjust the position of the menu item in the overview.
