Get User looks up a Flip profile. It pulls in someone's name, custom attributes, and other profile fields so the rest of your flow can use them.
Adding a Get User step
- Add a Get User step to your flow.
- Set its
user_idto whoever you want to look up:- The flow user themselves, via a profile path like
{{keyword.user.first_name}}or{{channel_member.user.first_name}}a custom attribute (e.g.{{keyword.user.manager}}, using that attribute's technical name). - Someone picked earlier in the flow — for example, add a User Select step to choose someone (eg. nominate a colleague) and then a Get User step to pull their profile data.
- The flow user themselves, via a profile path like
- Once found, you can reference the looked-up profile in later steps (e.g.
{{fetched_user.first_name}}).
Finding a manager
- Add a User Select action so the flow user can pick their manager, or use a custom profile attribute that already stores it.
- Feed that into a Get User step to fetch the manager's full profile.
- Use the result to route an approval or notification to the right person.
Sending messages
- Once you have used a Get User step, you can then send messages from your flow to that user as well as the current flow user. Just select who the message should go to in the message set up.
