Create and manage navigation items in the home menu

This feature is available on Flip Web (Desktop).

The Home Menu helps desktop users quickly access important links and resources directly from Flip Home. Admins can create a structured menu with top-level items and optional dropdowns (categories) with sections and links.

What users see in Flip Web

On Flip Web (Desktop), the Home Menu appears as a floating navigation bar at the top of Home.

Users will only see navigation items that are:

  • Published (not in Draft).
  • Visible to them based on the item's visibility settings (for example, user groups).

For categories, the category is typically only shown if the user can see at least one published item inside the dropdown.

Create a navigation item

  1. Open the Admin Console from your system.
  2. Go to ContentHome Menu.
  3. Click + Add navigation item.
  4. Choose the item type:
    • Category
    • Custom URL
    • Knowledge Base Page
  5. Enter the Name.
  6. (Optional) Turn on Publish navigation item.
    • If publishing is off, the item stays in Draft and will not be visible to end users.
  7. Click Save.

Edit a navigation item

  1. Open the Admin Console from your system.
  2. Go to ContentHome Menu.
  3. Click the navigation item you want to change.
  4. Update the fields you need (based on item type):
    • Name
    • URL (Custom URL)
    • Link behavior (Custom URL)
    • Knowledge Base Page (Knowledge Base Page)
    • Visibility (Custom URL or Category)
    • Publish navigation item (Draft vs Published)
  5. Click Save.

If you turn off Publish navigation item, the item becomes Draft and is hidden from end users.
For Knowledge Base pages, visibility comes from the Knowledge Base page settings.

Delete a navigation item

  1. Open the Admin Console from your system.
  2. Go to ContentHome Menu.
  3. Click the navigation item you want to remove.
  4. Click Delete (always visible in the bottom right corner).
  5. Confirm the deletion.

If you are not sure whether you want to remove it permanently, set Publish navigation item to off to move it to Draft first.

Item types

Category

A Category creates a dropdown in the Home Menu. Use categories to group multiple links under one top-level item.

After creating a category, you can:

  • Add sections (up to 8)
  • Add links inside each section (up to 20)

Custom URL

A Custom URL creates a direct link in the Home Menu.

Configure:

  • Name
  • URL
  • Link behavior (how the URL should open)
    • Open in device browser: The URL opens in the device browser.
    • Inside the app (iFrame): The URL is embedded in the app. Some websites do not allow this. You can use the iFrame tester to check in advance whether a page can be embedded as an iFrame.
  • Visibility (who can see the item)

Page (Knowledge Base page)

A Page links to an internal Knowledge Base page.

Configure:

  • Name
  • Select a page from the Knowledge Base
  • Visibility: this is taken from the Knowledge Base settings (it is not configured separately in the Home Menu).

Visibility

You can make navigation items visible to:

  • Everyone, or
  • Specific user groups.

If you restrict visibility to user groups, only users in at least one selected group will see the item.
For categories, end users only see the category if they can see at least one published link inside it.

FAQ

Why can't some users see a navigation item?

This is usually caused by:

  • The item is still in Draft.
  • The item's Visibility is restricted to user groups the user is not part of.
  • For categories: none of the items inside the category are visible (or published) for that user.

Why do I not see the Translations option?

Translations only appear if the translations feature in Flip is enabled for your account.

When will changes be visible?

After saving and publishing, changes usually become visible to end users within a few minutes.
