Broadcasts

Broadcasts allow you to send a message to a specific group of users at a specific time. It is a quick and effective way to get a message into a user's chat inbox, so they can start using the flow.
For example, you could send an introduction of a post-event survey to event attendees, 1 hour after the event has finished. This will get more eyes on your survey, and therefore increase the completion rate whilst opinions are still fresh in your attendees' minds.

Step by step guide

1) Compose your message

First, compose a message for your broadcast. This message will be the first notification that your receiver gets in their chat inbox. This example is the welcome message for an onboarding flow, which will invite the user to start clicking through onboarding content:

Once you're happy with your message, save it.

2) Visit your list of broadcasts

On the sidebar select the button that says ‘Broadcasts’. Then choose "Create a broadcast", if it is the  first broadcast in your flow, or "schedule new broadcast" if it isn't.

If it is the first broadcast in your flow, you will be asked to select your timezone at the point. Please note that time zones are organised by major city, e.g Berlin or London.

3) Choose your message

You will the be taken to your broadcast settings. Select the message you watch to send to your audience from the drop down list at the top:

4) Build your audience (target)

Now it's time to build your broadcast audience by choosing your target(s) from the following:

The flow audience includes anyone who has used the flow, been targeted by a broadcast, or added to a segment and has not opted out.

Channels are the channels that are found on your Flip tenant.

Segments are groups of people who have been added via "Manage Segments" or have opted in to receive alerts. Click here to find out more about broadcasting by segment. Please note that segments will not show up on this list, unless you have created them for your flow or in the "Manage Segment" section under "Broadcasting".

When you click on your desired target(s), a drop down menu will appear where you can set up your intended broadcast audience:

You can choose multiple targets to build your audience. So for example, if you wanted to target an event communications channel but avoid broadcasting to those who chose to opt-out, you would set up your broadcast like this:

You will notice a little blue box underneath these settings. This will give you a summary of who your flow audience includes:

Please note that this box will turn orange if there is an issue with how your flow audience is set up.

Once you have set up your target, you can also add a filter by attribute, if needed. For example, my event is just for those in the Sales department, so I have added the department filter to just target those under Sales:

As you can see, any filters added will also show up in the flow summary. Please note, that you will not be able to filter by attribute unless you have established a target first.

5) Choose to repeat the broadcast (optional)

If you would like to schedule a recurring broadcast, tick repeat and choose how often you want the message sent:

You can choose for the broadcast to recur:

• daily

• every weekday

• weekly on specific days

• monthly

Once you have set your cadence, you will have to choose your earliest start date. The earliest start date demonstrates the first possible day of sending - the message will be sent out on the next possible day based on the repeat cadence set.

Please note: Once you have scheduled up a recurring broadcast, you will be able to edit it by clicking the "Edit" button next to the recurring broadcast in your broadcast list:

This allows you to change the settings of the recurring broadcast, as well as view how the broadcast has been originally set up.

6) Schedule your broadcast

Once your your message and audience have been set up, it is time to choose when to schedule your broadcast. Choose the desired date and time from the date picker:

You can also click the "Set to now" button to send out your broadcast straight away. The time will be set to the timezone you are currently scheduling the broadcast from. When you're happy with your broadcast settings, click the "schedule" button in the bottom, right hand corner:

Your broadcast will be scheduled/sent, and you will be taken back to the broadcast list to view your broadcast details.

7) Wait for the results

You can keep track of your broadcasts on the Broadcast page. It will include a breakdown of each broadcast sent or scheduled, as well as the status and list of audience numbers. There is also a broadcast status - you can find out more about that here.

Broadcast reports

Once your broadcast has been sent, you can download a CSV with the list of people who have and haven't received it, and why. You can then use this report to create a new CSV for whatever purpose (create a new segment, assign attributes, etc.) You can access this report via the red report button next to the broadcast.

Duplicating broadcasts

Broadcasts that have already gone out can be duplicated. Simply go to the broadcast page in the platform and look for the broadcast you're hoping to duplicate. If it's been fully sent out, and is not still recurring, you will be able to see a "Duplicate button". This will then create a new broadcast with the duplicated broadcast's message and audience already set up. You will just need to program the schedule time.
