If your company already has an Apple Developer account, you can proceed directly to the Invite Flip to your App Store Connect account step.
If your company already has an Apple ID, you can proceed directly to the step Prepare for automatic publishing in the Apple App Store.
Create an Apple Developer account
To be able to publish apps with Apple, you need an Apple Developer account. Membership costs 99$ per year. The Apple Developer Program is only available in English.
- Apple does not support the following characters in names or legal entity names during the Apple Developer registration process:
- Special characters: Use only the Latin alphabet. Special characters are not supported. For example, a hyphen. If you have an umlaut or a sharp S in your company name, you must replace these with the following basic letters: ä ⇒ a ö ⇒ o ü ⇒ u ß ⇒ ss-
- More than 100 characters: To help you change the name of your legal entity if the company name is longer than 100 characters, contact Dun & Bradstreet support.
- Register with Apple to get an Apple ID or check the Apple support pages to see if your company already has an Apple ID.
- Register for a D-U-N-S number via the Apple registration page. The D-U-N-S numbers are managed by Dun & Bradstreet and are free of charge.
- Register for the Apple Developer Program.
- Within a few days of registering, Apple will likely call you and ask you some questions to make sure your intentions for the app are in line with Apple's guidelines. Here are possible questions and some ideas for your answers:
- Q: What is the name of the company registering?
- A: The name should be the same name that was used when registering for the D-U-N-S number.
- Q: In which department does the contact person work?
- A: Simply indicate the department in which you (the contact person for Apple) work.
- Q: What is the purpose of the app?
- A: To comply with Apple guidelines, the app must be publicly relevant. You can do this by explaining that your app provides valuable information for a wide audience. For example, you can provide job openings for potential new employees, company news for partners and customers, and additional information for employees that is available after logging in to the employee area.
- Sign in to App Store Connect with your Apple ID to make sure everything is working correctly.
